A very warm welcome to fitzCycles - we are a customer-focused bike shop based in a funky old church in Stillorgan, South County Dublin. We set out in 2010 to offer the best service... the best workshop... the best shop... the best brands... the best everything! To this day, every day, we still strive to achieve this.
The business is led by Paul Fitzsimons, who turned his back on a career in accountancy for the buzz of the bike biz and while it may be based on a very modern concept and systems, fitzCycles has actually been decades in the making – it can be traced all the way back to the 1940’s on the High Street in Killarney, Co. Kerry when Paul’s Grandad Billy Hearne set up a local bike shop called Killarney Cycle Traders. For over 40 years the popular shop successfully sold, serviced and rented bikes to locals and tourists alike, and it was during childhood trips during the summer that he’d peer through the shop window at countless high-nellies, wheels and tyres – he didn’t quite know what to make of it, all he knew was it looked like fun!
Unfortunately the shop closed with the passing of Billy, but cycling remained close to Paul’s heart thanks to Paul's late father Philip Fitzsimons – to everyone who knew him, he was the marathon man, strong as an ox, and it was he who encouraged the budding cyclist in Paul, teaching him how to cycle and supporting him in his schools’ club, the Willow Wheelers and then when he raced in the Bray Wheelers and UCD Cycling Club. He was also heavily involved in the FBD Rás and from the age of 8 Paul would head off with him to follow it each May – simply the best childhood memories anyone could hope for - this new venture simply wouldn't have happened without him & the shop is very much a tribute to Philip, in name & in spirit, we’re trying to do him proud.
Paul had the help of family and friend's to set up the shop, not-to-mention serious back-up from some of his old school friends in the form of Michael McDonald, aka Big Mac, & Michael O'Reilly, aka Micko - best mates for 25 years and the shop has been all the better for it - both guys remain close to the shop and very keen cyclists! The shop fit-out was a total rollercoaster - blood, sweat & tears - we build, paint, hack, drill, bodge & bash every element that makes up the shop and even after a good few years we’re still working late nights improving everything we can and since 2010 it's gone from strength to strength, we've learnt a helluva lot and thankfully we've had a great response from our awesome customers.
We were very lucky to find the best professional bike mechanic in Ireland in the form of Karl Rice - he’s lead & advanced our workshop every day since we opened and he and his team can generally be found stuck into customers bikes & some new build projects over @ www.fixcycles.ie - be sure to check it out & get your bike serviced by the best mechanics in Ireland.
fitzCycles is your bike shop - just let us know how we can help you!
